arts and culture funding
 Tell your Senators and Representative to support a funding increase for the National Endowment for the Arts to help support our nation’s cultural treasures and the arts in under-served communities.
arts education
 Tell Congress to support a funding level of $36.5 million for the Arts in Education programs within the U.S. Department of Education. These programs support model arts collaborations with schools, teacher professional development, and arts programs for at-risk youth.
tax issues
 Americans for the Arts is working on several tax issues. The one that applies most directly and exclusively to the arts is a proposal to allow artists to claim a deduction for the full value of certain donated works. Under current law, they may deduct only the cost of materials.
international issues
 There are currently two challenges affecting the international arts community: unreasonable delays by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on foreign artists obtaining U.S. entry visas and the lack of funding for cultural exchange programs.
other legislative issues
 Americans for the Arts also tracks other issues of note impacting the arts community, such as funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Public Broadcasting is often the only source for arts programming in rural areas, and any reduction to its budget would drastically reduce the access that many Americans have to the arts.
white house issues
 Send a letter to President Bush urging him to provide funding for cultural institutions affected by Hurricane Katrina.
media issues
 Advocacy is also reaching out to the media with positive arts messages via op-eds, letters to the editor, or by releasing new research and positive stories. We’ll connect you electronically to every local newspaper, radio and television station in your community, and allow you to customize and help place an op-ed.
